I write only of the truth!!

Imagine if you will please this cell phone crazed, Facebook, twitter, technology dependent generation in the nursing homes. Yes, this is right. At some point it will happen.

We will be twittering about our sponge baths, the hot and not so hot nurses, keep everyone posted on our bowel movements and update on what drugs we are getting on facebook. We will text our fellow neighbor instead of trying to yell at them. Entertainment won’t be bingo and card games. We will have wheelchair Wii and video game tournaments.

You must understand I spend a lot of time out with the dogs with no one to talk to. (This is a good sign right?  The dogs are not yet talking to me.  Give it time)  So I have a lot of time to think about things like this.

Take this advice with a glass of wine

Take each day as an adventure; make the best of what you have at the moment. Be a lab and dance through the puddle, don’t spend the time looking down for the best safe step. Look up at everything that is around you and move forward. Get dirty, get wet and laugh with each step. Splash the ones next to you and remember to stay out of Lily’s puddle.

She loves to pee in them.

Interrupted nap

It is amazing what one Chihuahua can do to a good nap time at The Barn.  We had a new dog which takes a lot out of the normal guys and we had a lot of time out in the sun soo nap time is really needed. Been down about half hour so you know everyone is in deep sleep, radio on, few cute cuddle puddles. One little Chihuahua (we all know who it is too!!) leaps up barking (she must have been on a good hunt in her dreams or something) At once every one is leaping up, stepping on each other not sure if they should bark or run or why they should be barking at or running from. Cherine dropped her book and screamed, I leaped from my chair then we pissed ourselves laughing. I don’t think Georgia had a clue what was going on. Then guess who the 1st one back to sleep? Yeah the loud mouth. The little beast!!!

just be

You must surround yourself with people who are happy and at ease being themselves, people who can laugh and make the best of the moment. In doing so you can be that person as well. Be bold and say what it is you wish to say no matter the emotion, the craziness or how bazaar the thought. If you have to think before speaking around closest friends then they are not your closest friends. People who are around you the most need to be the ones to understand you and let you be who it is you need to be.

Love yourself and the ones that are around you. Life is short and hard but it’s an amazing thing.

A child’s imagination

Cherine: What is that sound?

Me: It is a mighty dragon coming down upon us!!!

Cherine: oh no whatever are we going to do?!?

Me: I shall send Jasmine out to slay it!!

Cherine: She will need the help of a hobbit!!

Me: Go Cadan goooo!!!

Really, people leave us with their dogs?!? Amazing…

And to who may be concerned in New Durham, do not worry it was only a helicopter. We are safe for now.

Over and over again

I can’t wait to be old!!  Cherine makes it out to be such a joy!! She finds a book by her favorite author and can’t wait to read it.  How could she go all this time and never read this book!?!?! Few chapters into it she is in love with story and people.  At 10 chapters it starts.  Oh wait, I think I remember this grandmother.  Oh, I think I have read this book.  Unsure of how it ends she finishes it anyways.  This book that would have only been highly enjoyed once has now been enjoyed twice.  Both times as if it was the 1st time. Now that is getting your money’s worth!!

Love

Love is silent
Love is actions
We voice it too often till it is white washed out
I love this song, I love this kind of food, I love this shirt, I love you.

In the ancient Greek language there is five different words that all mean love.
Agape- pure ideal type of love.
Eros- passionate love with sensual desire and longing.
Philia- dispassionate virtuous love.  Loyalty to friends, family, and community.
Storge- natural affection.
Xenia- gratitude between a host and a guest, someone who had previously been a stranger.

We only have one word that is meant to cover it all. Show someone what love you have for them today!

Cherine: I can’t wait for birds, green grass and warmth!!

Me: So you can put in your two A/Cs, make it really cold in here and I can wear just about the same amount of layers?

Cherine: Your mean.

Me: Yeah, well your stupid.

Fun and games with the family

The Swett started off there games day with hide and go seek.  I will let you ponder that one for a moment.  Maybe come up with your own visuals of this.  Maybe Cherine in the kitchen counting down from 30 and Jim hiding under the bed.  Okay so this was not how the game went.  It was more of a Cherine is old, walked around talking on the phone all morning and then putting it down when she was done.  The big question was where was she when she was done.  Me being smart (ha I know I know) What did you do while on the phone? “Dishes, did laundry, cleaned the living room, blah blah blah.”  So it could be anywhere.

After awhile longer Jim had a smart idea to call the phone.  Yes, 5 ringing phones really helps you pin only one down.  As the phones are ringing Chrine, Jim and I are crossing paths and running all over the house.  Dogs watching us shaking there heads in shame.  I was the winner BTW.  It was on top of the microwave!  perfect place for a phone right.

Brady is a little scared these are the people he is left with each day.

He has faith though Winking smile

The night ended with more fun games and more family.  Elizabeth you were missed and hope we are able to have a game night soon!! Oh and we can put aside 5 hours to watch The Sound of Music!!

Say Yes to the Dress

Something you would never guess is Cherine and I love Say Yes to the Dress. I know I know, so not like us. On my sisters last weekend home there was a marathon on and we sat around watching making for one unhappy father. “Is this damn show always on?” Just for the weekend was said by all of us at once.
Monday night and on we watched it as well making my father declare it was the longest weekend EVER!!

The other night there was an all new Say Yes to the Dress and my mother told my father they didn’t have to watch it on the big TV. (The living room has 4 TVs.  All set up next to each other. It is Kind of like the red necks picture in picture.)

DSC09888

Soooo Say Yes to the Dress was put on one of the little TVs with no sound. Half way into the show my father bursts out. “Why the would they show her that if she couldn’t afford it! It is more money so of course it will be nicer than anything she could get. That’s just rude!” My father is now one of the girls!!

They are the voices in our head

I am sitting on my side of the barn when I hear Cherine say something, so I stop what I am doing, poke my head over the door and go “what?”. She looks over at me with a confused look on her face and goes “I wasn’t talking to you!”. This ladies and gentlemen is an everyday occurrence at The Barn. This happens tens of times a day. We think we hear the other one talking to just find out that she was talking to her dogs or even to herself. Not only do we have conversations with our dogs we are known to give them great voiceovers!  We know them so well we know what they are thinking and what they would sound like!! WE DO!! REALLY!! (okay okay so some times you get that look like “yeah, umm no, not what I am thinking at all lady.”

DSC08149

In the Barn we have fast pushy talking little dogs, slow talking big dogs and everything in between.  We even have a Chihuahua from West Virginia named Georgia who speaks bad Spanish!! (Very bad Spanish because she is on Cherine’s side and Cherine thinks agua is hello.) Even Georgia winces at her accent.

Fun fun snow day!

“Cherine, go read what is up on the computer!”
She gives me this look of irritation.
“Come on!! Play with me!! It is like a snow day and we are going to have fun!!”
“You and I have different idea of what is fun.  Every time you send me up to read something it is like I am back in freakin school!!”  Gets up and mopes up to the front desk with her dogs.
“Come on guy’s time for English class. As long as there is not math class you will live!!
5 Mins later Miss Behavior posts on facebook
“This year we will have 1-1-11, 1-11-11, 11-1-11 & 11-11-11....now add the last two digits of the year you were born to the age you are turning this year and see what you get ..... is there a mathematical explanation for this?? crazy!”

Hahaha Time for math class!!!
Plus you need to do this!! It is so freaking cool!!

Do as the animals do

Sometimes cartoons and real life cross paths.  I was lucky enough to have this moment happen to me last winter.

Cherine was cleaning snow from the side yard and had about 10 dogs with her.  At the strange sound all the dogs skidded away leaving Cherine standing alone.  In hearing the same sound Cherine did not move but just stood there looking around.   She looked up in time to see the snow slide off the metal roof onto her.

DSC08834

I was able to find out she was okay 1st before peeing myself laughing.  To top it all off she had to start the snow clean up all over again!! hehehe

Do as the animals do.  They are always smarter then humans!

The end of the world for an hour

Cherine’s cries echoed over a powerless New Durham.  Inside the barn the TV that was not being watched fell silent, the radio that was drowned out by the TV and dogs playing lost it’s voice.  The light bulbs that over powered the light of day shut off. We were left with silence and the bight natural light that hurt our eyes.   Cherine leaped from her chair and ran out side ( I am still unsure why this happened. In asking she said she went out to see if she could hear anything.)  She did come back in telling me that aliens have blown up New York and we are next and to prepare for the end of the world. (I think we were to wait for someone on a horse to come by and tell us in the next day or two if this was true)

DSC08595

For the next hour she cried much like the lion in the wizard of OZ that we are doomed and sure to never be able to eat again, freeze to death with out her electric blanket, yelling at the top of her lungs “Give me running water or give me death!!”.  Cherine was Cut off from the out side world and worried how she was going to heat up her Mac and cheese for lunch.

By the time she was done dogs had on tin foil hats, were under beds and crying for there mothers.  Fires were being built with chairs and books out in the poop trash cans out in the yards (poop bags taken out of the can 1st)and they were all ready to each one another to live a little longer.

What goes on behind the music

You will now probably watch past and future videos and just wonder what is really going on behind the music.

Knock Knock??

Heading from the house to the barn.  Cherine steps out the front door of the barn and yells something to me over the flipping cold wind. I think she says “Knock knock” I was so excited!!! I stop and look up with a stupid smile on my face ready to put up with the cold weather all in the name of a good knock knock joke.
“Who’s there?!?!” I yelled back.
“what?”
“Did you say knock knock?”
“You’re a moron, I said pocket book.”  all my hopes and dreams of a good joke was crushed as I turn around to get her the pocket book from the car which was my goal from the start. (went in side for some food 1st so by the time I was done eatting I had forgot that was the mission.)

78 days till spring!!!
